Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation scholarships (MAECI)

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation offers every year a certain number of scholarships (Borse di studio del Governo Italiano) to international students or to Italian students living abroad.

The amount and duration of each scholarship can vary according to the type and level of the course selected (bachelor, master of science, PhD, 1st and 2nd level specializing master, specialization schools, research under academic supervision).

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation also offers scholarships to foreign students for so-called “Special Projects” (please check the dedicated section at the following address: http://www.esteri.it/mae/en/ministero/servizi/stranieri/opportunita/borsestudio_stranieri.html).

In order to apply for MAECI scholarships, candidates who enroll to courses held in Italian must possess an Italian language certificate level B2.

Candidates who enroll to university courses held in English must refer to the language requirements of the specific University.

Scholarships are offered for the following courses:

  • Bachelor
  • Master of science
  • 1st st and 2nd level Specializing Master
  • PhD
  • Specialization schools
  • Research under academic supervision

The call for application is available in the Italian Embassies and Consulates, in the Istituti di Cultura and in the Foreign Affairs Ministry website and is usually updated in February/March.

The online application for 2016/2017 a.y. must be submitted within 15th April 2016.
