If you want the academic recognition of the study period spent abroad or of your foreign degree, you have to follow a particular procedure.
It is possible to obtain a recognition in order to enrol in university programs, to continue university studies and to obtain an Italian degree.
These competences are attributed to individual universities, according to Legge 11 luglio 2002, n. 148 di Ratifica ed esecuzione della Convenzione di Lisbona dell'11 aprile 1997 .
For different aims, for example, to attain the recognition of a professional qualification, it is necessary to apply to civil services: Ministero della Giustizia - Direzione Generale Giustizia Civile - Ufficio III - Libere Professioni is in charge of recognition of professional qualifications in the frame of Engineering ; for recognition of professional qualification in the frame of Architecture is necessary to apply to Ministero dell'Istruzione, Università e Ricerca (MIUR) - Servizio Autonomia Universitaria e Studenti (SAUS) - Ufficio X.
The recognition of a foreign academic degree is not immediate.
Italian academic authorities carry out the evaluation of degrees obtained abroad within the framework of university autonomy; they decide case by case if they can confer a total or partial recognition.
If you apply for a recognition of your degree at Politecnico di Torino, a specific Commission will value your previous career.
You can obtain the full recognition of your academic degree and in this case you will receive the "certificato di equipollenza".
Otherwise you can be required to integrate your curriculum with some exams. As a consequence, you must enrol with "abbreviazione di corso", that means attend some courses, pass the related exams and discuss your final project.
