Important things to know before fill in the form

-   Italian language courses

We do not ask for proof of Italian Language proficiency as part of the selection process. However, Politecnico di Torino considers it fundamental that all its foreign students have a basic knowledge of Italian. This can be proven through certification issued by institutions that meet the requirements established in the Italian Language Regulation, or, on arrival, by passing the final exam of one of the Italian courses provided by the Politecnico Language Center (CLA).

Politecnico offers courses free of charge at level A1 and A2 (with reference to European classification).

The Italian language course (level A1) will be available in streaming on the personal page of the student (application form). Students are invited to attend this course before their arrival in Italy if they do not have any knowledge of Italian.

Students who state they have same knowledge of Italian, are required to take the level test before submitting the application. The test is compulsory also for students who hold an Italian language certificate; the certificate should be attached to the application on line and be delivered to the Incoming Mobility Office on arrival in Italy.

The Italian level test consists of a multiple choice test and lasts 45 minutes. It can be taken ONCE ONLY.

The Italian level test is designed to put students in a class which reflects their true level of Italian. Please, do not copy during the test; this will not help you towards passing the final exam.

-   English language (ONLY for double degree students/full/joint degrees students)

English is a compulsory subject for all students at the Politecnico and students are required to pass IELTS with a minimum score of  5.0 or to possess accepted certification, mentioned below, at equivalent level in order to complete their degree:

  • TOEFL Internet Based test (minimum score 77)
  • Cambridge ESOL examinations - General English exam (minimum level required: PET pass with merit)

In case students enrolled in a Master of Science degree want to apply for the IELTS exam in Politecnico, it should be known that in order to take the IELTS exam at Politecnico di Torino students, in the frame of the Double, Join and Dual programs, will have to pay a fee of  € 100,00.

Only students enrolled in a Bachelor of Science degree are exempted by the payment, if they pass the exam in the first attempt.

English language is considered as “extra-subject”: this means it does not contribute to the credits required to obtain the bachelor or master of science degree.
