Language requirements for admission of students in the exchange programmes

To be admitted at Politecnico exchange students are required to prove an English or Italian language proficiency equivalent to IELTS 5.0 (5.5 for the Master of Science in Automotive Engineering) and level B1 (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) respectively. The language required depends on the courses for which they have applied at Politecnico di Torino, as shown below

Candidates must attach the required language certificate to their online application form before submittal and within the deadline.

Regarding Italian certificates, Politecnico di Torino accepts all of the level B1 language qualifications listed below:

1) Università degli studi di Roma Tre;

2) Università per stranieri di Perugia;

3) Università per stranieri di Siena;

4) Società Dante Alighieri (PLIDA).

Politecnico also accepts certificates issued by:

b) Italian Embassies, “Istituti di cultura italiana” and other authorities certifying the conclusion of courses which require a final examination and that state the level of proficiency attained (certificates of attendance will not be accepted).

Regarding English certificates, we accept IELTS Academic (International English Language Testing System) meeting the minimum entry requirement of 5.0. Please note that the Master of Science in Automotive Engineering requires a minimum score of 5.5.

CASES NOT REQUIRING AN ENGLISH LANGUAGE CERTIFICATE

Applicants are exempted from presenting an English language certification if they provide an official declaration/certificate printed on headed and stamped paper attesting that “The medium of instruction is English” and one of the following:

- Certificate issued by a Higher Education Institution in English language after at least one year of attendance

- High school diploma recognized by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research as equivalent to the Italian High School Diploma or Higher Diploma obtained at a Higher Institution in English language

-  Bachelor degree obtained by universities where courses are offered in English.

*NB:

Double/Joint or Full degree applicantsmay provide a declaration issued by the sending Institution attesting English or Italian language minimum requirements for admission, nevertheless in order to graduate at the Politecnico di Torino, students must obtain one of the stated language certificate before the end of their studies.
